Scripture begins this issue, not with chaos, but with orderly creation.

God hasn’t left man to guess what humanity is or invent its meaning from the inside out. He’s made us, named us, and spoken in His Word so that we may receive what He has declared. This issue has to be understood from creation, not confusion.

God Made Humanity as Male and Female

Genesis 1:27 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” That means male and female aren’t accidental or negotiable parts of being human. They belong to the way God made humanity from the beginning.

And what God made, He didn’t make carelessly. Genesis 1 doesn’t present creation as confused or misfiring, but as the wise work of God. Male and female are part of that good design.

At the same time, Scripture teaches that the world is fallen. Sin has not only brought disorder into the world around us, but into us. Our desires, our thinking, and our judgments are affected by it. That means we aren’t safe guides to our own identity apart from God’s Word.

So the Christian begins here: not with inward feeling, not with cultural language, and not with fallen reasoning made ultimate, but with what God has said. Male and female are given realities under the wisdom of God.

Christ Confirms What God Established

When Jesus speaks about man and woman, He doesn’t move away from Genesis. He sends us back to it. In Matthew 19:4, He says, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female?” Christ treats the distinction of male and female as part of the created order established by God from the beginning.

And that makes sense, because John 1:3 says of Christ, “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” What He made, He has the right to define. What He affirms, man has no authority to revise.

Male and Female Belong to Creation’s Goodness

Scripture doesn’t present male and female as rival categories, nor as meaningless ones. It presents them as part of the goodness of creation.

In Genesis 2:18, God says, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” The point isn’t inferiority. It’s that God made woman as the fitting counterpart to man. God’s design is wise, purposeful, and good.

Then Genesis 2:24 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” That verse only makes sense because male and female are real, embodied, and God-given. The one-flesh union isn’t built on confusion, but on distinction within God’s order.

That means Christians shouldn’t speak as though male and female were arbitrary, interchangeable, or detachable from the body. Scripture treats them as part of the wisdom of God in creation.

The Body Is Part of the Truth

One of the deepest errors of our age is the idea that the self stands over the body and may redefine it at will. Scripture doesn’t speak that way.

Psalm 100:3 says, “Know that the LORD, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his.” We belong to God because He made us. That includes our bodies. They aren’t outside His claim.

And 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” The body isn’t morally irrelevant. It isn’t detachable from discipleship. It isn’t a shell to be contradicted while some truer self speaks against it. It belongs to God and is to be honored accordingly.

The body is not separate from the truth. It is part of the created order God has given. So the body can’t be treated as though it stands outside the reality God has made.

Truth and Love Are Not Enemies

Scripture doesn’t divide truth from love, as though one must be sacrificed to preserve the other.

Ephesians 4:15 says we are to speak “the truth in love.” Not truth without love. Not love without truth. Both together. And Ephesians 4:25 adds, “Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor.”

Love never requires falsehood.

That means Christians aren’t free to set truth aside in order to appear kind. If God has spoken truthfully about male and female, then falsehood doesn’t become loving just because it sounds gentle. At the same time, truth isn’t made faithful by harshness. Scripture requires honesty and love together because both belong under Christ’s lordship.

Christian love does not compete with truth. It is governed by it.

Christ Restores Obedience to Creation

The gospel doesn’t save us by teaching us to break with creation. It saves us by reconciling us to God and restoring us to obedience under His rule.

Modern rebellion doesn’t stop at disobedience. It pushes beyond that and presses against the created order itself, treating what God established as open to revision.

But Christ’s kingdom doesn’t rewrite male and female. It teaches sinners to live truthfully before the God who made them. Redemption isn’t self-creation. It is God bringing His creatures back under His rule.

This is why the church must be careful not to speak as though God’s design were a burden from which Christ came to free us. He came to free us from sin, lies, and rebellion against God’s good order. He doesn’t heal by affirming confusion. He heals by bringing men and women under truth.

That doesn’t mean obedience is always easy. It may be costly. But difficulty doesn’t make truth less true, and the cost of obedience doesn’t turn falsehood into freedom.

Conclusion: Christ Rules What He Created

Male and female aren’t cultural guesses. They are part of the created order established by God and affirmed by Christ.

He made man male and female.

He rules what He made.

And His people aren’t free to speak as though His design were negotiable.

So Christians should begin here: with Scripture. God has spoken. Christ has confirmed it. The church’s task isn’t to improve on His words, but to receive them faithfully and speak them truthfully.

Where Christ has spoken, the church must not stammer. The church doesn’t need new categories here. It needs faithfulness to what Christ has already said.
